  Over a five-year period, the savings you'll enjoy are quite amazing. You will save enough in yearly power consumption to pay for your new UPS within few years! If you are buying your first UPS the advantages are obvious -- the Silcon savings on the power bill will generate return on investment from day one. A smaller monthly electric bill is visible proof of the energy conservation offered by this product which results in less pollution as you use less power and reduce the CO2 emitted from the power plant. In the event of fire, no halogen gases are emitted. All Silcon systems are manufactured almost entirely with recyclable materials. Moreover, all packaging material is made with recyclable materials to conserve natural resources and is developed under ISO14000 certification. This product has a power factor corrected input side ensuring that the input power factor is always 1 regardless of load and mains voltage. A power factor of 1 minimizes installation costs by allowing the use of smaller cables and smaller fuses. Most large UPS systems have a problem with distortion of the utility mains. The 6-pulse thyristor rectifier in the mains input circuit causes the distortion. This distortion has to be eliminated (EMC requirements) by large filters, which causes further decrease in efficiency. This technology eliminates distortion problems and meets the EMC requirements. This product saves also in air conditioning costs due to the very low heat losses. The annual power savings from using the system instead of an ordinary UPS was estimated at $160,000.

Input Power Factor Correction As datacenter loads approach unity power factor, one no longer needs to oversize the transformers, breakers and wiring which feeds this load. However, when utilizing a UPS that still has a pf less then the load, all of the additional expenses needs to be based on the UPS and not load. With a UPS that has a power factor corrected front end, there will no longer be a need to oversize breakers, transformers, and wiring because both the UPS and the load will be power factor corrected.

Extendable Run Time APC has long been recognized as a leader in providing extended battery life. A unique process within this product series called -- float voltage compensation -- achieves maximum battery life. Moreover, charge voltage is regulated to compensate for battery temperature. With no compensation, battery life decreases, as temperature increases. By adjusting the charging voltage very, battery life is extended as seen in the green curve.
Availability
 
Extendable Run Time This product integrates seamlessly with generators. When extended back-up time is required (more than 1-2 hours), a diesel generator combined with a UPS with 5-10 min. back-up power often provides the optimal solution. In the event of mains failure, the series feeds from the battery while the diesel generator is started and stabilized. As soon as the supply is re-established by the diesel generator, the series provides the load with conditioned generator-supplied power.
N+1 Redundancy Redundancy ensures the required maximum uptime and continuous uninterrupted operation. Power systems consisting of several units must be sized to ensure that in the event that one system is down, sufficient capacity remains to power the load. In practical terms this means that the individual systems never operate at full load.
Paralleling Capability Installed in parallel, the series’ intelligent control can also improve the overall efficiency because only the systems needed to supply the load are "active". When required the other systems can be held in -- hot stand by -- mode, ready to start up without interrupting the load. Furthermore, to reduce stress and improve reliability, the load can be switched between the parallel systems in preprogrammed sequences.
Serviceability
 
Status Indicator LED's Via the product display panel, key measurements can quickly and easily be accessed. This information covers utility power, battery status, output volume, and capacity percentage. In case an alarm condition occurs, an audible alarm is activated, the red alarm light goes on, and the display shows the cause of the alarm. The monitors separate functional values, each of which can activate an alarm. The product also maintains a time-stamped log of all important power and UPS events. The log is accessible from the display for easy diagnostics.
Overload Indicator Actively let you know if the unit is on battery, if the battery is low, or if there is an overload condition.
Manageability
Automated Battery Monitoring : Management and Testing The controller features battery monitoring and temperature compensated battery charging. This ensures control of the battery capacity in cyclic intervals and charging under optimized conditions. The result is a higher system reliability and prolonged battery lifetime.
Fan Surveillance A built-in fan monitor ensures constant fan monitoring which automatically displays any irregularity.
Built-in SmartSlot By adding APC accessory cards into the built-in SmartSlot, you can monitor power conditions and take action. The addition of the accessory cards increases overall system availability by proactively notifying you of conditions that could affect uptime. (Accessories sold separately)
Web Management UPS network interface card for network administrators that provides standards-based management of UPSs in rack, computer room, and datacenter environments. APC Web/SNMP Management Card is the only UPS Management product to provide full management of UPSs via multiple open standards like Telnet, HTTP and SNMP. It is a full-featured, robust power management product that is certified for and tightly integrated with Enterprise Management products. Through the Web/SNMP Management Card, you can monitor and configure APC UPSs to shut down and reboot computer systems.

Software Integrates, Monitors and Manages your product. Extended power outages can sometimes outlast your UPS battery power. If no one is available to shut your system down, you may end up with corrupted or lost data. Unattended, safe, automatic shutdown is always a part of your power protection solution. Two built-in RS232 ports and a relay board make connecting the unit to a monitoring station a breeze.
Multiple System Shutdown APC provides a reliable, centralized power protection solution that is easy to install and manage. When an APC UPS is protecting multiple computer systems, Multiple System Shutdown enables the UPS to communicate reliably with all servers connected and provides gentle, unattended shutdown during an extended power outage.
Audible Alarms Audible alarms alert you to changes in operating environment and battery conditions. Some alarms are software configurable and most can also be suppressed or delayed to eliminate nuisance alarms.
